Night Terrors

The term night terrors are also known as sleep terrors. Sleep terror is a sleeping disorder just as the name suggests and it is parasomnia in nature. Night-terrors are something that affects many people around the world. A person suffering from this disorder also experiences inability to be in a state of complete consciousness on many occasions. This is one of the prime reasons why the term terror is used alongside this disorder. An individual who is suffering from night-terror usually wakes up in the night and starts walking, screaming, moaning or even gasping. However, when the individual wakes up the next morning he/she is completely unaware as to what happened the previous night. Many people believe that night-terror is something which is similar to nightmares. However, there is a lot of difference between the two terms and they are not similar to each other in most of the ways.

During a night terror the subject is not fully asleep while during a nightmare the subject is fully asleep. A nightmare is an imagination and dream while a night-terror is not an imagination as the events happen in reality. Nightmares are supposed to be very scary and increase the level of fear in the individuals mind. However, night-terror is something which is scary but it mind not necessarily increase fear in the person’s mind. This is mainly because the individual does not remember night-terror the next morning while nightmare is something that can be recalled the next morning very easily.

Night-terror is very common amongst adults. There have been plenty of night terrors adults’ cases around the world. There is not much information available as to why exactly people suffer from the problem of night-terror. Most of the experts believe that it usually affects people who have a weak mind and are not stable.

One of the worst aspects of night-terrors of sleeping disorder is that small children are very prone towards this sleeping disorder and it can affect them very easily. Night terrors in toddlers are usually seen in the children of age group between the ages of two years to six years.

Night terrors children cases are in plenty and it is believed that as many as fifteen percent of the total number of children around the world suffer from this disorder between the age of two to six. Usually, the symptoms showed by the children are different than that showed by adults in most of the cases.

One of the most important differences in the night-terrors experienced by children is that most of the children are able to recall the events that took place the previous night unlike the adults. Most of the children get fever and headache due to the stress suffered because of night terrors.
